We all do it every New Year. We wake up on January 1 (probably) and decide to get our life in order. Apparently the most popular resolutions amongst students are health, wealth, studying and sticking to resolutions. So here are a few FatTips.

“Get healthier”

  • Ditch diet fads. Quick fixes don’t work.
  • Moderation is key. Yeh yeh. We know. But at least make sure you’re getting the essentials needed to maintain a balanced diet.
  • Use stairs instead of lifts and escalators. Walk and cycle. Sack off the bus. If you’ve got a car, park it.
  • Bet you’ve got a cheap gym at college. Use it. Added bonus – lots of hot people use gyms.
  • Party – getting down with your bad self is a great workout.

“Get down to serious studying”

  • You don’t have to fly solo. Make it a group activity. You can swap ideas and learn new stuff from your fellow students.
  • Don’t put work off. Do it now. Then go out. You’ll enjoy yourself more, do better work and won’t hand things in late. The Theory of Relativity wasn’t written while Einstein was hanging.
  • Getting talking. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and use every resource available. If you don’t get a concept, ask a lecturer or friend. You are not alone. Everyone doesn’t know something. Or something…

“Get my money sorted”

  • Try to create a monthly budget for entertainment, food, toiletries, etc (again).
  • Distinguish your needs from your wants. Nikes and iPhone 5s are probably wants. The key thing is to be realistic about your spending habits, know what your weaknesses are and avoid them.
  • Open a high interest savings account, pay your loans etc into it and then release a certain amount of money each month. Lock the account so that your dosh is easily deposited but difficult to withdraw.
  • Keep an eye out for good deals. Split 2-4-1 deals with a mate and join forces to bulk buy items you use lots of. Check the Fatbrain Facebook page regularly. Our special agents will keep you updated.
  • Sell us back your unwanted textbooks – we give great deals and the money you make can help pay for the next batch. Or nights out. Or Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

“Keep my resolutions”

  • Don’t make a standard list – create measurable goals. Eg: try ‘Go to the gym twice a week’ instead of ‘get fit’.
  • Be realistic – if you can’t reach the goals you’ve set, you’ll end up frustrated and more likely to knock them on the head.

Most importantly – resolve to be happy, worry less, laugh more and work smart.
